    I am not proud

I went to see John and Martha King at Oshkosh. I didn't even know what they were going to say, didn't care, just wanted to see the Alpha monkeys like a good low-ranking monkey (the relevant research is summarized here). I've known about John and Martha King for 20 years and never saw them in...

    Should I replace my ADF?

The Lucky Strike came with an ADF. The previous owner said he used it to listen to ball games, but it certainly doesn't point to anything. I am going to use the aircraft as an IFR trainer in the Spring. My thinking is that I could replace the ADF with a working unit for not a lot of money...

The highest paid health care workers aren't...

…the most highly trained. Doctors salaries are on average in the middle of health care reimbursement. The big money goes to hospital administrators, according to this.

One in four Americans don't know...

…that the Earth orbits the Sun, according to this. In truth, the Earth orbits the Lagrange point between it and Sol, but said point is sufficiently close to Sol as to be indistinguishable from it. At least, that's the version I recall from what little Astronomy I was ever taught. Still...

    Meteor hits Russia, hundreds hurt

The latest story out of Russia is the penetration and explosion of an 11 ton meteor that streak over the Ural mountains and caused a shockwave in the Chelyabinsk region and injured more than 500, most by broken glass from windows shattered by the explosion of the extraterrestrial visitor.

    I'm a mess!

I eat right and exercise regularly. Went to my very pretty AME yesterday. My vision sucks, my blood pressure was sky high, and I've shrunk. Anyone who's witnessed my diminutive stature knows the last thing I need to be is shorter. This getting old stuff really sucks. No, it isn't better...

Vegetarian diet cuts heart disease risk 32%

A study of over 40,000 peoplein England and Scotland recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that vegetarians reduce their risk of cardiovascular illness 32%. Makes sense, since vegetarians are often more health conscious than their carnivorous counterparts...

Definitely doesn't pay to be an Italian scientist!

Now they've convicted seismologists of manslaughter for not accurately predicting an earthquake, something that can't be accurately predicted in the first place. Story.
