    AA Embraer 170 - Montgomery, AL - 31 Dec 22

The size of the fine seems rather small - perhaps low enough that OSHA hoped the airline wouldn't find it worth contesting? Have no idea if it would affect the success of any civil wrongful death lawsuit by the family.

How does splitting time building help costs?

Perhaps it is meant for CFIs who want to build time toward airline requirements. Just need any student who may also be a CFI who wants to build time, so one is in training while one acts as instructor. Dubious, but that is all I can think of. Somebody asked a question about that scenario here...

    Cessna Citation - Montebello, VA - 4 Jun 23

I plugged in N611VG into https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ and overlayed the IFR High Route chart and found that the plane started its turn at the SARDI intersection (you'll need to manually switch the map to IFR Enroute High mode)...

    Oshkosh 2023

One factor is the travel time to my brother's house in Arden Hills by car. Anoka is 9 minutes while Crystal is 17 minutes. Downtown St. Paul airport is 15 minutes.

It is the same amount of time as my last visit. I'll meet up with two brothers and a college buddy of my oldest brother in Arden hills, MN and we drive to Oshkosh starting early on Tuesday (get in shortly before noon) and drive back on Thursday morning. We stay at Ripon College. Previously I...

I Wonder if Quinn the Eskimo Ever Got There

The wikipedia page doesn't say (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinn_the_Eskimo_(Mighty_Quinn)) but I see now it has been covered by a lot of musicians. Haven't heard it in years.

But the power requirements go up as the cube of the speed

That is pretty much it. When just plowing through a fluid (no lift) and you want to double the speed you can either use 8 times more power or cut the drag in half. It is typically better to know ways to reduce drag than ways to increase power density, so years ago I spent $75 on a copy of...

    The Latitude Nut

My guess is that it would be set to some intermediate latitude like 45° or perhaps a bit south of that to minimize the drift for most areas of the U.S. At about 14 minutes into this video the latitude nut is discussed. The whole video is informative about other interesting details on the...

    The Latitude Nut

Went up to do some pattern work and to check the drift or precession of the club plane's Heading Indicator (HI). After engine start I set the HI to the magnetic compass value, It was about ten minutes later that I was at the end of the runway ready to take off. The HI differed from the compass...

No 12V start cart at KFFZ any longer

The clock in the club Aerobat is inop. While figuring how to get the plane legal for IFR I looked into replacements and found this: http://www.fdatasystems.com/gt-50/ Typical price is about $174: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/flightdatafc50.php According to their FAQ: Will the...

    Tapping on the altimeter

Or stick a wad of gum on the outside edge of a prop? Just kidding too! I'm pretty sure I've seen hesitant altimeters before, mostly during climbs after takeoff when I'm looking at it more frequently to see when I've reached a specific altitude such as 300 ft below pattern altitude. Just did a...
