Trivia: Stanley Kubrick commissioned Alex North to compose the music for 2001. Kubrick used classical pieces at various points to guide North in his compositions. Kubrick ended up not using any of North's music. As a result no one heard any of the discarded compositions til about 25 years after the film was released.
