Trying out the Garmin inReach for in flight use

I am excited to take a trip up to MN and IL this week in the S35.

Enroute I will be trying out the Garmin inReach Mini2 communicator. Supposedly this does a better job inflight with messaging than a cell phone and also permits tracking position more reliably than ADS-B by using the Iridium network.

I will report back.

I found this works rather well. There are a lot of places out west here where there is no ADS-B reception. Yet this device will provide pings on something like every 10 minutes so people can follow you on a web page you can provide them.

Additionally it will send and receive messages in flight when cell phone reception is nil. You can use your phone or iPad to compose them and have a library of quick messages like “Landed safely”
