Image loading in Brave Browser

Moving discussion of the image loading issues in the Brave Browser here.

Can posts be moved to a different thread. I have not seen a way to do that as moderator or administrator yet.

Not to 7500 this thread, but I can't see the attached .png pics in Peter's original post. Using a Win10 machine with Brave browser. Tried it with all shields down, just in case some of my blockers were causing the issue, but still only see the broken links. Some pics in other threads show up fine, some don't. Any ideas? Would love to see what was being discussed.. :)

The images in the first post are "hot-linked" to Peter's web site. The URL of the first image is:
Check to see if you can get to the steinmetz.org web site. If so, the only other possibility that comes to mind is the link is to http (port 80) rather than https (port 443) and maybe something along the way blocks port 80? If it is caused by our end I would definitely like to know.

Thanks, Jim. The direct link you posted opens very quickly without any problem.

As a test, I just tried to insert it as a linked pic in this message, and it returned the following error message..."image can not be loaded from the passed link." It is possible my browser is trying to convert all http addresses to secure addresses, I suppose, but I've tried disabling the feature that always upgrades and/or warns when a given site is not an https site, to no avail.
 
I have a similar problem with the Brave browser on a Mac. Not on iOS devices curiously. I suspect it is related to some issue with the JavaScript code that XenForo is using with the linked images and some setting in Brave. It likely is worth figuring out and fixing this.
 
I don't know if it will help, but I've turned on local permanent caching of hot-linked images. If it is due to an issue with the Brave browser on some platforms being overly aggressive about hot links to http images, then maybe the caching will fix the issue. Let me know if the images now appear on Brave on the affected platforms.

Good to know. A web search indicated you and Peter aren't the only ones who have had problems with hot-linked images when using the Brave browser on some platforms. I've got Brave on my iPad and iPhone and have no issues - beats me what code or default setting difference exists on the Mac or Windows versions.

The solution is "expensive" in terms of local storage demand and network usage to us long term: normally when viewing a post on Flyers Forum that has a link to an image on another machine the browser has to pull the image from that other machine. With proxy caching turned on the remote image is copied to Flyers Forum (FF) machine and the image is afterwords always sent from FF rather than telling your browser to get it from the other machine. The Brave browser appears to think that is safer, maybe because in this case the connection to Peter's machine is unencrypted and unauthenticated (http) while https provides encryption and authentication.

It isn't obvious at all, but when logged in as moderator notice the little box at the left end of the line below the post that says "Report Edit History Delete ...". That is a checkmark box. Checkmark a post in that thread and a menu bar appears at the bottom of the window. One of the drop-down menus is a list of actions you can take on the checkmarked posts (you can checkmark several before selecting any menu action.) One option that appears is moving posts. When you execute the move you are given the option to either create a new thread or enter the whole URL of an existing thread. I did the latter, using a second window to navigate to this thread so I could copy and paste its proper URL.

Do you mean the link to the picture itself was http? Because it look to me like the link to this forum is https.

The links to the images that the Brave browser was unable to display were on a site using http. This site uses https.
